With the official step-down of the 2007/2008 committee, all administrative rights will be handed over to the 2008/2009 committee. It will be up to the new committee to decide on the fate of this blog. Till a decision is made, this blog will remain in hiatus.

On behalf of Malam 2008 and CMSA 2008, thank you for visiting this site and i hope that you had a good year with us! All the best to the newly elected committee too! We look forward to a great year ahead!

Theme Ideas

before i start becoming a dictator and go super enthu (short for enthusiatic) about my 'together' theme...

any ideas for a good Malam theme are most welcomed!

ultimately, whatever the theme is, we will be looking at these things:
  • how can we integrate the theme with the night's events, decor etc?
  • what kind of atmosphere do we want to create?
  • will this theme be exciting and interesting to attract people to attend malam? will it allow for interaction amongst the guests and encourage participation from the guests?
we have until the end of May to finalise the theme :) You still have time to bring them on!

ps: this blog will still remain whatever the theme is... i'm liking the interaction with you guys. it's very encouraging! thanks for dropping by!

Welcome Onboard!

So we now have 3 more people in the team:

Bernard as the protocol guy.
Ka-Mun as vice-secreteray.
Natasha as vice-treasurer.

Bernard has organized formal dinner functions before and is very much experienced and familar with all the formalities and such. He will be looking for a sub-team to help him with the frontline stuff.

Ka-Mun is the secretary of CMSA and Nat is the treasurer. One of the reasons why we are putting them as the vice is that they would be able to assist the secretary and treasurer of Malam - nak 'train' member dan raise leader kan :p

So welcome onboard! Look out for their posts! :)

On another note, my flatmates were giving me some ideas on Malam today.

What really stood out to me in the discussion was:

Think big, as if you have no restraints on the budget. Let the creative juices flow during the brainstorming.

Then when it's time to be realistic, when the limits of the budget kicks in, scale down.

i liked that. i don't want to think within a box. it feels good to have the box of budget lifted away, though temporary, but at least, it allows more room for the creative juice to flow.

we then also discussed on the ways to integrate the theme into Malam. The problem of audience participation came in - even if an idea is good, if there's no participation...well, maybe it wasn't that good an idea after all..

my friend concluded: looks like it's a hard task ahead!

i smiled: i know. but since i'm in it, i will take it like a man.. :p

4 main principles that i will stand firm on:

  • Can't please everyone - no matter how good something is, there's bound to be criticism. i'm prepared for that.

  • Trust - trust that the team will do their respective tasks well; and not taking everything into my own hands - not a one man show kan? :p

  • Decisive - firm and with wisdom.

  • Let go - when things don't turn out the way i want it or we want it, we'll let go and think of a better alternative.
last but not least, like Bern said to me once:

Enjoy the whole process! :)

Will be meeting up with the LMSS rep sometime this week! Stay tuned for that! :)

Survey Response

So far we have about 39 responses. Thanks to all who took the time out to do the survey.

We still need more of you to help us have a better idea on what YOU would like to see in Malam this year. So if you have not done the survey and have some time to spare, click the link below to do the survey:

Malam 2008 Survey

We do take each response and suggestion seriously. And even if we do not end up using your suggestion, please do know that each suggestion would have been given due consideration before a decision is made. Your input surely matters to us!

We will put up a post later next week to discuss the responses given.

Stay tuned!

The Ball is Rolling

to start the ball rolling was no easy task. i had to struggle to push myself to get things started.

studies are getting tougher; time is scarce; and Malam is not an easy event to handle. sometimes i even wonder whether i am able to put this together.

but i am thankful for friends who said that they will be behind my back to help me through; i'm grateful for Wan Yin, my lovely assistant and friend who will be coordinating this with me... :)

And so, what is next on the list?
  • set up a committee
  • discuss the possibility of collaborating with LMSS (Lincolm Malaysian Students Society)
  • get a venue!
  • food!
  • hope to get the ticket price to be not more than NZD45.00.
  • sponsors!
  • what performances?
  • what events?
Wan Yin and me have been going through some ideas; but right now, we need a team to get things started. Hope to get a team by latest second week of May; set up deadlines; and get about doing things!

Remember, no matter how tough the going is, the tough gets going! :D

Fighting! :)

Together

i am quite settled with our current theme: Together... Bersama-sama. It might not sound very, urm, sophisticated at the moment :p We'll see how it goes :)

My main idea is to create a sense of belonging by involving the members in the organising of one of CMSA's major events. Hence this blog.

Each member of the organizing commitee will be able to post his/her preparation thoughts and progress in this blog; whilst those not involved in the committee will have the chance to see what we are up to, and participate by giving insights.

So please feel free to use the chatterbox or leave your comments! :) We trust that you respect this area as a non-political ground; and also we would appreciate if appropriate language is used, i.e. no foul language :) Let's keep this place a clean and enjoyable one for all who comes by, shall we?

We also want to allow for inspirations and ideas to flow through this blog. I want to let members send in stories of people who have inspired them; and people for whom they are grateful for.

Ultimately, this Malam would be a Malam where we will celebrate life TOGETHER as friends, mates; partners.. i hope that through this blog and through other CMSA activities prior to Malam, we are able to nurture a sense of belonging and an attitude of gratitude.

We want to INVOLVE and to INSPIRE - TOGETHER.

These ideas may seem to be still running all over the place. I hope to be able to nail things down and have a clearer picture of the theme as soon as we get a team to work together.

Till then... do let me know what you think of the theme! cheers! :)
